Your Zi Wei Dou Shu chart (命盘, Ming Pan) is a snapshot of the celestial configuration at your birth moment. Learning to read it reveals profound insights about your life path.

The Basic Structure

A complete Zi Wei Dou Shu chart consists of:

12 Palaces (十二宫)

The chart is divided into 12 sections, each representing a life domain:

  • 命宫 (Ming Gong) - Life Palace
  • 兄弟宫 (Xiong Di) - Siblings Palace
  • 财帛宫 (Cai Bo) - Wealth Palace
  • 田宅宫 (Tian Zhai) - Property Palace
  • 官禄宫 (Guan Lu) - Career Palace
  • 交友宫 (Jiao You) - Friends Palace
  • 迁移宫 (Qian Yi) - Migration Palace
  • 疾厄宫 (Ji Yi) - Health Palace
  • 财库宫 (Cai Ku) - Treasury Palace
  • 父田宫 (Fu Tian) - Parents/Property Palace

The 14 Main Stars

These primary stars are placed in various palaces based on your birth data:

  • Tian Ji, Tai Yang, Wu Qu, Lian Zhen, Zi Wei, Tian Tong
  • Plus additional stars that modify interpretations

Auxiliary Stars

Reading Your Chart Step by Step

Step 1: Find Your Life Palace

The Life Palace (命宫) is the most important palace. It represents:

  • Your core personality
  • Physical appearance
  • Inner nature
  • General life direction

Step 2: Identify Your Body Palace

  • How you present yourself to the world
  • Your external behavior
  • Life experiences that shape you

Step 3: Note Major Stars in Each Palace

  • The quality of those stars (clean or mixed with auxiliary stars)
  • Whether the palace is “empty” or “full”

Strong indicators:

  • Major stars in Life Palace = strong personality
  • Multiple stars in Wealth Palace = financial potential

Warning signs:

  • Too many “killing stars” (煞星) = challenges
  • Empty important palaces = weaknesses to develop

  • Da Yun (大运) - 10-year cycles
  • Xiao Yun (小运) - Yearly cycles
  • Each period shows what life phase you’re experiencing
